The Emergence of “Heterophobia”

I have been married to the same lovely lady for 35+ years and while my personal feeling about gay marriage is just that, personal, what my homosexual neighbors do in the privacy of their home is none of my business. That said, for several years anyone expressing a personal opinion opposed to gay marriage was labeled a “homophobe”. In fact the government has gone so far as to make crimes against gays “hate crimes.” In an earlier post I have expressed the fact that a crime is a crime regardless of who the victim is and thus hate crime legislation is not needed if laws are enforced.

The current Ms. California, Carrie Prejean, has become the target of the gay rights community because she used her first amendment rights of free speech (I assume that is still a right) to say that she was opposed to gay marriage. This is her belief and she has a right to state it just as Perez Hilton, the gay activist, had the right to ask the question.

I have one simple question. What is the difference between Mr. Hilton verbally supporting gay marriage and Ms. Prejean verbally opposing it?

What has amazed me is that violent character attacks that Ms. Prejean has received from the gay community. She is just a “dumb blonde with fake boobs,” is one of the nicer quotes I have read. Such a violent reaction to Ms. Prejean’s comment tells me that a heterosexual women willing to speak her mind is scary to them. In fact what may scare them more is the fact that if you read her complete answer her feeling is the same as the one expressed by President Obama and they felt that if he was elected gay marriage would become the law of the land.

I have already expressed my feeling about “hate crimes” legislation, but if they are a necessary evil then heterosexuals must be protected as well. Welcome to the age of “heterophobia.”

I would agree with the freedom of speech stuff, but her showing up with Dobson, Hannity, and on commercials is a direct violation of her contract with Miss USA/Miss California. I have no problem with her giving her answer, but I do have a problem with her being allowed to continue as Miss California with the help of the Donald. She broke her contract and should have been fired. She wants her cake and to eat it too. Freedom of speech doesn’t apply to contractual obligations -and as a free enterpriser you should be demanding that she lose her crown. And can you believe that puritan James Dobson would even talk to a woman who had posed for nude photos? Bet Dobson and Hannity wouldn’t jump to her defense if she would have offended the Christian right by saying she supported gay marriage. They be demanding that she be fired -and you know it!

Didn’t know about the contract. The bare breast shots were photoshopped.

Bozo; Do you defend the attacks from the gay activists?

I thought Perez Hilton’s attacks were ludicrous, and as a judge I would assume that he has some contractual obligations to Miss USA and shouldn’t be allowed to work in that capacity anymore. I am glad you are a strong supporter of free speech. I would hope that you also support the freedoms of all Americans. Your two gay neighbours should have the same freedom to marry as you and your wife of 35+ years have. What they do in the privacy of their home is only part of the solution. They should have the same legal rights and responsibilities as heterosexual couples. Until they do, your heterophobia argument holds no water. They are American citizens like you, and any government that denies them the freedoms that you and I enjoy are disregarding founding fathers principles. If you have libertarian leanings you should support gay marriage, even if it personally offends you.

Bozo you have to get over assuming my feelings. Whether I do or do not agree with gay marriage is not the issue I was raising. I was simply stating a FACT that anyone who does not agree with gay marriage is considered a homophobe, thus is would be fair to say that those blasting Ms. California should be met with the same criteria. Dobson like all Ministers (I use that term lightly when speaking of his and Jeremiah Wright ilk) who mix religion and politics are idiots. As for Hannity never watch or listen to him. I don’t need an entertainer helping me to form an opinion on any issue as I am sure you don’t. I put those type ministers in the same category as Garafolo. By the way who is the bigger liar Pelosi or the CIA. The truth and either is an oxymoron.

You are missing my point. You and Miss California and anyone else has a right to their feelings about gay marriage, heterosexual marriage, even inter-racial marriage. But, no one’s feelings should be allowed to restrict the constitutional rights of others when it comes to the matter of who they choose to marry. (And no I’m not saying that people should be allowed to marry family members, or animals -that is a fear based strawman.) I think the gay community wouldn’t have reacted so violently to Miss California if they had the same rights to marry who they love as she does to marry who she loves (I’m assuming she’s heterosexual). If she wants to be against gay marriage, fine. But, should laws be written to prohibit gay marriage, no. Gay Americans pay taxes, fight our wars, run our businesses and contribute to the economy and life of our nation. The fact that their marriages are only recognized in three states is a travesty of justice. And you, as a freedom loving American should want them to have the same rights that you do -EVEN if you don’t feel comfortable with it. Hell, I even know some preachers who are OK with gays getting married. Not that that should matter. Give gays the right to marry just like heteros. That is a true libertarian position. Live and let live.
