The Blanche DuBoises Senate; Per Dana Milbank

Rarely do I agree with Dana Milbank, liberal reporter for the Washington Post, but his portrayal of the 100 members of the United States Senate in todays edition is classic: Mr. Milbank wrote:

“Landrieu and Lincoln got the attention because they were the last to decide, but the Senate really has 100 Blanche DuBoises, a full house of characters inclined toward the narcissistic. The health-care debate was worse than most. With all 40 Republicans in lockstep opposition, all 60 members of the Democratic caucus had to vote yes — and that gave each one an opportunity to extract concessions from Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid.”

For those unfamiliar with the work of Tennessee Williams’ Street Car Named Desire, Blanche DuBoises was a prostitute. The portrayal seems consistent with the screwing that the legislators of both parties are giving all of us.
